Altar Guild
Our Altar Guild is comprised of a group of 25-30 ladies who serve during one week of the month on a rotating basis and give their time, energy and love in making sure everything is in good order for Our Lord’s Table. The duty of the altar guild is to prepare all the things necessary for the celebration of the Eucharist or any of the other services and sacraments of the church that are included in the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. The altar guild is a ministry—a gift of time and talent to serve God in His house. Service at God’s altar includes brass polishing, vacuuming, dusting, filling the oil candles, marking the Bible lessons, making sure the vestments are cleaned and pressed, and setting up the altars. It is a very great privilege to serve God in this way. The housekeeping and decoration of God’s house should be done with sincere devotion and dignity in good taste. It is a team effort and each member contributes to making it run smoothly. Each new member of the altar guild must be approved by the Rector. For more information, please contact our altar guild directress Deaconess Jill Nowell.
Greeters
A Greeter at Church of the Holy Communion Cathedral is the first person many will meet when they arrive on CHCC campus. First impressions are very important to us and we hope that our greeters will provide that warm welcome to those seeking a parish home as well as those current members each and every Sunday morning Greeters provide a warm welcome and they also give direction to first time visitors regarding our services, nursery, children’s chapel, and Sunday school programs. For more information, please CONTACT Father Kasey Gage
Altar Ministry
All members of the Altar Ministry team serve on a rotating basis at each of our worship services. Lay Readers and Acolytes serve on a rotating basis. Everyone who serves as a Lay Reader or Acolyte must be confirmed. Lay Readers are adult males, and acolytes may be male or female and of any age. Training for new members happens periodically throughout the year. Each new Lay Reader must be approved by the Rector. For information about serving as an Acolyte CONTACT Deacon Chip Shattuck. For information about serving as a Lay Reader, CONTACT Father Kasey Gage
Flower Guild
Our flower guild provides beautiful flowers that adorn the altar of our church for every season and for every occasion. The flower guild not only prepares flowers for the altar, they also prepare the greens and wreaths that adorn the church during the season of Christmas and lilies that fill the church as we celebrate our risen king on Easter Sunday. For more information about Flower Guild contact Laurie Aten.
Ushers
The role of Usher at CHCC is viewed in terms as those historic gate keepers in the house of the Lord. We believe that worship is sacred and therefore should be protected against any disruptions or unaccounted intrusions. Therefore ushers provide a role that ensures that each service begins on schedule, flows smoothly, are not disrupted by unscheduled events, and are viewed by attendees as both appropriate in terms of worship and sensitive to the needs of the parish. Ushers serve on Sunday mornings, at funerals, and at other special services at the Cathedral. If you are interested in becoming an usher, please CONTACT our head of ushers Barry Roop.
